How to Apply to the MS - SE Track

All application materials should be submitted electronically through the ApplyYourself application system. Admission decisions will be communicated to applicants using this system. Your admission decision will be emailed to you after your application has been reviewed by the ISyE program and your transcripts and any credentials have been authenticated by the Graduate School. 

A baccalaureate degree from a recognized institution of higher learning in the United States, or a foreign equivalent, in engineering or in a closely related discipline is required. Applicants with non-engineering majors must have completed coursework in (or show proficiency in) mathematics and statistics. A minimum undergraduate grade point average of (GPA) of 3.0 on a four-point scale is the preferred standard for admission. Students whose native language is not English are required to submit scores from one of the following English proficiency examinations: TOEFL, MELAB, or IELTS. 

Special Application Requirements for SE Track:
At least two years of professional work experience in a technical field are required. Promising candidates with less experience will be considered under exceptional circumstances. Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation and a personal statement. In addition to the academic record, the professional record of the applicant and the letters of recommendation carry weight in admission decisions.

Graduate Record Exam (GRE)

The GRE General Test is not required for students applying to the SE track.

English Language Tests

English language test scores (TOEFL, MELAB, or IELTS) are required for applicants whose native language is not English. Information about minimum score requirements can be found at the Graduate School's English Language Proficiency Page.

Application Deadline for Fall Semester Admission

Applicants for fall semester admission should submit their applications by February 15 of the year in question. Applications received after February 15 will be reviewed for admission if space is available.

Application Deadline for Spring Semester Admission

The application deadline for spring semester admission is October 15 of the previous year.

Unofficial transcripts or academic records should be uploaded directly to the online application. Please do not mail in paper copies of your transcripts, there is no need for official transcripts or academic records for initial review. If you are admitted, the University will then request official copies of this material.

Three Letters of Recommendation

Paper copies can be accepted, but you are strongly encouraged to submit letters via ApplyYourself. If you choose to submit paper copies, they should be mailed to Mr. John Gardner, Mechanical Engineering, 111 Church Street SE, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55455

English Language Test Scores (TOEFL, MELAB, or IELTS) are required for applicants whose native language is not English

Scores should be entered in the Test Information-Self-Reported field in ApplyYourself. Your scoresheet (or a screenshot) should be uploaded directly to the online application as 'Upload 1' under 'Program Supplementary Information'. Please do not mail in paper copies of your scoresheet. ETS does not send copies of the scores to the program. If you are admitted, the University will then request official copies of this material.
